One of the UK’s most high profile stadiums has just signed up to the ‘Ask for Clive’ initiative. This is yet to be officially announced to the public.

Ask for Clive began in February 2019 in honour of Clive Buffey for all his work and contributions to the LGBTQ+ Community in Hertfordshire. It’s a take on ‘Ask For Angela’, but for those who are part of the LGBTQ+ Community to show that they are welcome.

In the last six years over 3000 venues have joined to be apart of the ‘Ask for Clive’ initiative including twenty churches around the UK, pubs, cafes and the SSE Arena in Manchester.

It was revealed that a big stadium in Britain is the latest to sign up. ‘Ask for Clive’ founder confirmed in an interview that this stadium’s involvement will be a real boost for the scheme.

The start of the organisation had a holistic and slow growth, mainly through word of mouth.

Clive says he has worked with many organisations since the launch of ‘Ask for Clive’ and believes positive change is being made across the board.

“I advised the police on LGBTQ+ incidents in Hertfordshire,” he says.

In June 2019, Ask for Clive went to a number of anti-homophobic events and caught the attention of the BBC who wanted to create a news piece on them and what they do.

It was aired all day that day and by midday that day Clive Buffey had received over 800 emails from organisations and businesses that wanted to join ‘Ask for Clive’.

He says the impact of ‘Ask for Clive’ has been immense leading to more venues wanting to join.

The Ask for Clive sticker is put at the front entrance of all venues. It shows it’s there to keep people safe.

“We want people to feel welcome and that they belong,” Clive Buffey.

As ‘Ask for Clive’ continues to grow, they have partnered with the Night Time Industry Association (NTIA). The NTIA hope to add venues in 2026.
