The City Ground on Wednesday night as Forest beat QPR 3-1.
Steve Cooper's men come into the clash on the back of two successive wins in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest are just one game away from Wembley when they host Liverpool in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

The Reds host the Merseyside outfit at 18:00 on Sunday evening (20th March 2022) in the first meeting between the two since 1999.

Steve Cooper’s men have already beat Arsenal, Leicester City and Huddersfield Town in this season’s competition.

With the semi-finals scheduled to take place at the National Stadium, a win for Forest would see them compete at Wembley for the first time since the new stadium opened in 2007.

The City Ground is expected to be full with tickets quickly selling out for the quarter-final clash.

Many Forest supporters are excited about the prospect of facing Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“I would say this is one of the biggest games in a generation,” said Paul Severn from the Nottingham Forest Supporters Club.

“I think there’s been more important games. There was a couple against Yeovil that were very important. But in terms of glamour, I’d say this is the biggest game since Bayern Munich in the 1990’s.”

“I think it will be a harder game than Arsenal and Leicester. But when you are at home, you never know. I don’t know what the odds are, but I think we can give them a good game!”

The Reds come into the cup-tie having won their last three in all competitions.

The official FA Cup social media channels have been looking back at previous ties involving Forest.

Their 3-1 victory over QPR on Wednesday saw two academy prospects (Ryan Yates and Brennan Johnson) get on the scoresheet.

“I think there’s always a special place for local players,” added Paul.

“The academy is really important here. I think players like that seem to care a little bit more. You see when they score, what it means to them. And the fans react off that.”

“It’s really essential to have homegrown players like Ryan and Brennan, as well as Joe Worrall who has been fantastic this season.”

The quarter finals get underway on Saturday when Championship side Middlesbrough host Chelsea.
