A Disney film director has contacted a 12-year-old Nottinghamshire schoolgirl after she said there ought to be more female characters wearing glasses.

Lowri Moore from Chilwell wrote a letter to Jared Bush, the director of the Disney film Encanto about a dysfunctional family. She was inspired to raise awareness about how more female characters who wear glasses should be included in films.

On BBC Radio Nottingham Bush spoke to Lowri revealing that he himself wore glasses as a child which inspired the character of Mirabel. He told her: “I am your biggest fan. I am so impressed by you.”

The director expressed his admiration at the young girl for being brave enough to acknowledge and speak out for those who wear glasses and how they often go unfavoured compared to non-glasses wearing characters.

To thank Lowri, Bush gave her a drawing by Disney artist Jim Kim quoting “heroes wear glasses”.
