The petition was started on the evening of the incident.

Over 3000 people have called for a new school crossing in Coalville after the death of a 15-year-old on Monday.

Sian Ellis was fatally struck by a bus on Meadow Lane at around 3:40pm.

Sara Stewart, who started the petition on calling for a crossing, says:

“I honestly can’t believe how many signatures we have achieved in such a short space of time. I’m completely amazed and proud of the community that I live in.”

Either end of the street is believed to be a 20mph school safety zone.

Leicestershire Police are continuing enquires and are “speaking to people who were in the area at the time.”

In their latest statement they say, “The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Beth Elliott, who signed the petition, said: “Children’s lives are more important than council budgets!”

The petition, addressed to Leicestershire County Council, is aiming for 5000 signatures.
