Shoppers in Nottingham are helping to fuel growing demand for cannabis-infused water.

Love Hemp Water went on sale in Nottingham’s Holland & Barrett stores during the summer.

It is the first functional spring water in Europe to be infused with cannabidiol, a natural constituent of hemp.

In September, global drinks brand Coca-Cola announced it was ‘thinking’ of entering the cannabis market with a ‘wellness beverage’ but Love Hemp Water has already beaten them to it.

In addition to Holland & Barrett, the brand is stocked in Ocado and online at Sainsbury’s and CBD Oils.

“Sales have exceeded our expectations with stores such as Holland & Barrett in Nottingham leading the way.”

Each 500ml bottle of Love Hemp Water is sugar-free, contains 2mg of CBD and is certified 0.0% THC, meaning it does not have any psychoactive effect when consumed.

Tony Calamita, co-founder of Love Hemp Water, said: “Sales have exceeded our expectations since launching earlier this year and stores such as Holland & Barrett in Nottingham have been leading the way.

“There’s a growing understanding of the wide ranging benefits of cannabis oil to health and well-being which is why we launched our own trailblazing Love Hemp Water drink.

“We are interested that Coca-Cola is closely watching the growth of CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages and may wish to follow in our footsteps.”

The number of people using cannabidiol (CBD) oil in Britain has rocketed from 125,000 to 250,000 in the past 12 months, according to the Cannabis Trades Association UK.

Cannabis oil has been subject to extensive scientific studies, most recently by the World Health Organisation, where it was found to offer a wide variety of health benefits.

The WHO report revealed that CBD oils – completely natural supplements sourced from low-level THC Cannabis Sativa hemp – have benefits for Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, MS, pain, anxiety, depression, cancer and diabetic complications.
