Ramsdale Park, Calverton

Plans for a new cemetery in Nottingham catering for all faiths and religions could soon be given the go because the existing one is almost full.

The new facility, planned to be built at Ramsdale Park on Georges Lane, in Calverton, will incorporate traditional burial, natural burial and woodland burial spaces.

The empty site at Ramsdale park would extend across the whole of three empty fields if approved by Gedling Borough council after consultation with residents.

The existing Redhill cemetery has catered for the burial needs of Arnold residents for many years but is almost at full capacity.

Current burial grounds in Nottingham include;

  • Highwood
  • Northern cemetery
  • Southern cemetery
  • Basford
  • Wilford Hill
  • Carlton
  • Church cemetery
  • Redhill

Gedling Borough Council leader John Clarke has said; “The expansions aim to see grounds eventually expanded across the whole of Gedling, we aim to expand our plots to all faiths, Muslim plots are being expanded right now.”

The new site would be located 4.3 miles away from Redhill Cemetery, and a driving distance of 12 minutes.

The council has identified a need for burial space within the borough. “The site represents an appropriate and suitable location for the plans to go ahead,” said Councillor Clarke.

If plans were to go ahead work on the grounds will begin immediately. The council’s decision meeting will take place on May 14th.
