Health-conscious coffee lovers in Nottingham can now get even more out their caffeine fix and with the help of mushrooms that live off the bodies of dead insects.
Health food restaurant Folks and Fables – located in Bingham – offers customers a choice of two mushroom lattes at a price of £3.20 per cup, and the craze is proving popular.
The restaurants Barista even claims that students are drinking the coffee to help improve their grades.
The first type uses a blend of ‘chaga’ and ‘lions mane’ mushrooms, described as immune-boosting super-foods, infused in an oat-milk espresso.
The second coffee again uses chaga and cordyceps muchrooms – the latter of which is even said to have anti-aging benefits.
The cordyceps is recognised as a medicinal treasure in China, and grows from the mumified bodies of insects such as caterpillars and crickets.
The health benefits of these mighty mushrooms include…
- Improved energy levels
- Improved appetite
- Increased stamina
- Higher libido
- Improved endurance
- A better night’s sleep
Alongside the health benefits, the coffee is also renowned for its taste.
“It’s a very smooth, very nice tasting coffee’, says Matt Gascoigne, founder TRIPlantBased.com.
“It’s not necessarily an acquired taste, however you sure can feel the mushroom coming through’.
“I just love the taste of them and these guys present them in a really nice way”.
