After a much anticipated wait, it’s finally here! The John Lewis 2017 Christmas advert has been released which means that Christmas is just around the corner!
The public had high hopes for the advertisement, last year’s ad hit 25 million views on YouTube, and set the bar for this year’s ad.
In the advert, the Beatle’s song “Golden Slumbers” plays over a little boy and the monster under his bed.
In recent years, John Lewis have had the monopoly on the Christmas advert rivalry, it’s the most talked about high street advert. But will it be the case this year?
With the likes of Marks and Spencers and Debenhams getting the big names to star in the commercials, have John Lewis missed the mark?
“I wasn’t quite sure who it was promoting?”
John Lewis spent around 10 million pounds on the ad and are expecting at least 10 times as much back. The night light that was shown in the video has already sold out online. Just a few hours after the advert went live on YouTube.
Just watched the John Lewis ad but have to say it wasn’t my favourite! I’m not sure I get the storyline?! 🙈😂 I feel like it lacked emotion which is one of the many reasons I love the ads they create! What do you think?

Although some have welcomed the advert with praise, others have criticised it for not being Christmassy or just “not getting it”.
CBJ’s Megan Wood spoke to the people of Nottingham to get their views about the Christmas advert.
