The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the charity of the week for Nottingham Trent University’s raising and giving (RAG) events. All money raised across the week will be going straight to The BHF.

Nottingham Trent’s Student Union executive team have had a busy February organising and hosting fundraising events. RAG week started with a Karaoke night hosted in the SU’s level, Bingo night at the SU followed, with the most successful event being RAG Ocean Social.

Ocean Devotion is a movement started by Trent Students that proves a dedication to be at Ocean nightclub every Wednesday in their chosen fancy dress theme. But this week Afonso Martin’s idea took Ocean Devotion to a whole new level.

The ocean social itself raised £323 – with money from Bingo, Karaoke and Trent Me Out still be to counted for the official figures.

Afonso Martins, VP Activities at NTU, who organised the first RAG week of 2017 has one big idea still in the works and some improvements on events that went well this term.

“I want to do a huge bingo night, we did it in ‘The Landing’ this week and unfortunately it wasn’t big enough to have everybody attend.

“It was quite sad when people came and wanted to engage but couldn’t. The aim is do a bigger and better organised bingo night in term three so that everyone who really wants to engage will have that opportunity.”

February’s RAG week ending with an event that has never been done at Trent before – Trent Me Out. The university has created their very own version of a popular reality show Take me Out which rose to fame with its catch phrase ‘No likey – No lighty.’

If you attend the event, you’ll notice instead of lights the contestants will have balloons to pop instead.

Afonso said: “Approximately £800 pounds has been raised in the last few days alone and more money still needs to be counted. Nottingham Trent has made a substantial contribution to The British Heart Foundation.

“The aim is do a bigger and better organised bingo night in term three so that everyone who really wants to engage will have that opportunity.”
