On Wednesday the 24th of February the 36th annual Brit Awards at The O2 in London and were presented by Ant & Dec for the third time.

These awards are designed to celebrate the biggest achievements in the music industry throughout the year.


This years awards saw Adele steal the show. The Tottenham-born musician was named best British female solo artist and given the Brits’ global success award, following the record-breaking success of her third album 25. Since the awards ticket sales for Adele’s World Tour have rocketed by 163%.

She also took home British album of the year – which she also won in 2011– and Hello was named best British single. The only other artist in Brits’ history to pick up four awards in one night was Blur in 1995.

There were also awards for up and coming British acts such as Jack Garratt and James Bay. It was a record-breaking night for Coldplay , who were named best British group for the fourth time, beating a previous record they had shared with Arctic Monkeys.

David Bowies death earlier this year was ever present in the awards with a heartfelt tribute by New Zealand born Artist Lorde. She performed a “haunting” rendition of Bowie’s ‘Life on Mars’. Lorde was chosen as she was an artist Bowie had both met and admired.
