An elderly couple have been hit by a bus as they crossed Mansfield Road, outside Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, this lunchtime (Feb 9).

It is thought one of the couple received serious head injuries and was still trapped underneath the bus by the time the emergency services reached the scene.

Three ambulances and three police cars were still outside the busy Victoria Centre up to an hour after the incident which caused delays across the city.

It is believed the incident occurred as people hurried to cross the pedestrian crossing. One bystander, who wished to remain anonymous, said she saw the entire incident and described it as; “an accident waiting to happen.”
