Venues and restaurants across the city centre are taking part in celebrations, including the annual Pancake Day Race and special additions to café menus.

The Corner House is hosting the Pancake Day Race on Tuesday, February 9th. Taking place on Foreman Street, this is the fourteenth year the race that has taken place.

The various businesses within the Corner House are all taking part to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

The companies donate £20 to the days chosen charity, which this year is Nottingham Hospice.

Aubrey’s Traditional Creperie, located in West End Arcade, is also joining in with the festivities. They are usually closed on Tuesdays, however the creperie is opening on Shrove Tuesday especially for its customers to enjoy their pancakes.

Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration before Ash Wednesday and the last day before Lent. Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent.
