A new community café has opened in Bulwell to give people the chance to get help and advice on welfare and jobs – and a square meal of home-made food.
The Crabtree Community CAFÉ has started up at Bulwell’s children’s centre and along with welfare rights workers and job centre advisers they’re ready to help.
The café is open twice a week every Wednesday and Friday from 11.30am-2.30pm and they offer affordable home cooked food for everyone.
It is run by volunteer Maria Shakespeare who is the Chair of the Tenants and Residents Association and she wants to bring the community together.
Maria Shakespeare says ”I wanted to give people an easy way to get advice or help if they need it.”

”Love Food Hate Waste can make PEOPLE’S food go further”
Maria approached Daron Barnes at the Children’s Centre and discussed using the kitchen on site.
Maria added ”I’ve asked welfare rights workers and job centre advisers to do sessions and we’re running nutrition workshops with Love Food Hate Waste that can help people make their food go further and not throw it away”
