Libraries across Nottinghamshire are holding an array of special events and celebrations, hoping to raise the profile of the service and to remind people of the importance of reading.

UK libraries were visited approximately 265 million times last year and are evidently extremely important to members of the public.

However, Nottingham’s library services have suffered funding cuts including a reduction in staff, shorter opening hours and less money for books.

Official statistics reveal that since 2010, more than 400 full-time libraries have been closed across the UK and fourteen million fewer books are available in British libraries.

National Libraries Day takes place on Saturday, 6th February. Details of events being held can be found on the Nottingham city council website.
