A new cutting edge business is helping students look sharp while saving money. ‘Look good, feel good’, that is the slogan of Webb Bros Barbershop, but this shop is unlike most, because it is student run.

Specialising in ‘professional men’s haircuts at an affordable price’ Nottingham Trent English Student Ethan Webb set up his barbershop at the back of the Student Union’s shop on Clifton Campus.

Ethan set up last year with help from a programme called The Hive, which supports students who are spending their placement year setting up their own business as an alternative to working in a company.

The location is very beneficial for Clifton students such as Andrew Jackson. He said: “It’s on campus for starters so its simple its easy, just to go in between lectures just to go for a haircut.”

Webb Bros Barbershop is proving popular, serving over 60 students in the first month and continues to have a waiting list of customers.

“There’s a lot of lads on Clifton who obviously need a haircut”

The closest alternative barbershop is almost three miles away, so Ethan liaised with the Student Union on Clifton Campus and he asked for help to set up his business. They were more than help happy to help, and thought it was a good idea.

He wants to expand into the city and maybe venture into women’s hairdressing. He is the only hairdresser and works in between his studying.

Ethan is in his final year at Nottingham Trent University and for many that means moving away. But, he now plans to stay in the city and expand his business.

The support and pleasure he gets out of his business makes it a unique experience. He said: “It’s a kind of a community based idea as well, you know if your chilling, in here it’s a good idea to get to know the guys as well”.
