Supermarket chain Asda was fined £75,000.

Supermarket chain Asda has been fined £75,000 for selling 5-month old food products, including meats.

The food store, located at West Bridgford, Nottingham pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on the 10th of November.

The superstore pleaded guilty to one offence against the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations 2013.

The out of date produce included, ham that was 10 days out of date and Haislet that was 5 months out of date.

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “This case showed the system of checking use by and best before dates at this large store had failed in a substantial manner.

Chilled foods were also a part of the produce that were out of date. However, it is not illegal to sell such products if the store is satisfied that the items are fit for human consumption.
